Morarji Desai Biography ?

Morarji Desai was an Indian independence activist and politician who served as the 4th Prime Minister of India from 1977 to 1979. He was a leader of the Indian National Congress and later, the Janata Party. Desai was a key figure in the Indian independence movement, and served as the Chief Minister of Bombay State and the Deputy Prime Minister of India before becoming the Prime Minister.

During his tenure as Prime Minister, Desai implemented several notable policies, such as the abolition of the privy purses and privileges of the former rulers of princely states, which was a major step in the abolition of the privy purse, which was a financial compensation paid to the princes of princely states. He also made efforts to improve relations with Pakistan, and to improve the state of the economy.

Desai was the first non-Congress Prime minister of India, and the first Sikh Prime Minister of India. He was also the oldest person to serve as Prime Minister of India, holding the office at the age of 81. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, in 1991. He died on April 10, 1995 at the age of 99.
