Pant was born on October 4, 1997, in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India. He began playing cricket at a young age, and was encouraged by his family to pursue the sport. He began playing cricket at the local cricket academy in his hometown and quickly progressed through the ranks.
In 2015, Pant made his first-class debut for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy, India's domestic first-class cricket tournament. He impressed with his performances and was soon selected to play for the India U-19 team. He played a vital role in India's victory in the 2016 U-19 Cricket World Cup.
In 2016, Pant was bought by the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi capitals) franchise in the IPL. He made his debut in the 2016 season and has since established himself as a regular member of the team. He known for his powerful and clean striking, and his ability to score quickly.
In 2017, He was selected to play for India's T20 team and made his debut against England in February 2017. later in December 2017, he was included in India's ODI team and made his debut against West Indies. He made his Test debut for India in August 2018 against England.

He has a great potential to become one of the best wicket-keeper batsman in the world, he is the first Indian wicket-keeper to hit a century in England and also became the youngest Indian to hit a test century in England.
