Dhoni was born in Ranchi, Bihar (now in Jharkhand), and he began his cricketing career as a goalkeeper for his school team. He eventually moved on to play for the Ranchi cricket club, and then the Bihar cricket team. In December 2004, he made his debut for the Indian cricket team in an ODI match against Bangladesh.
Dhoni quickly established himself as one of the best finishers in limited-overs cricket, and he was appointed the captain of the Indian ODI team in 2007. Under his leadership, India won the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, the 2010 Asia Cup, and the 2010 Commonwealth Bank Series. In addition, India reached the final of the 2007 Cricket World Cup, and won the tournament in 2011, which was the first time India had won the World Cup in 28 years. Dhoni also captained India to the Number 1 position in the ICC Rankings in Test cricket for the first time.
Dhoni retired from test cricket in 2014 and played his last ODI in 2019. His captaincy record is remarkable with most wins as a captain in international cricket and also won 2007 T20 World Cup, 2010 Asia cup and 2016 Asia Cup.He is considered one of the best captain in cricket history, known for his cool and composed demeanour on the field.
Off the field, Dhoni is known for his humility and for being a private person. He is also involved in various charitable causes, and is a strong advocate for animal rights.
He is a recipient of many awards including: -Padma Bhushan in 2018 -Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, in 2009 -Honorary doctorate degree by De Montfort University in August 2011. -Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2007.
