Kohli was born on November 5, 1988 in Delhi, India. He started playing cricket at a young age and quickly made a name for himself in the Delhi cricketing circles. He made his first-class debut for Delhi in 2006, at the age of 18, and made his international debut for the Indian cricket team in August 2008, in an ODI match against Sri Lanka.
Kohli quickly established himself as one of the most talented and consistent batsmen in the Indian team, and has gone on to break several records in his career. He has scored over 20,000 international runs across all formats of the game, including 70 centuries. He has also been named ICC ODI Player of the Year three times, and ICC Test Player of the Year once.
