Rahul was born on April 18, 1992 in Mangalore, Karnataka, India. He began playing cricket at a young age and represented Karnataka state cricket team at the U-16, U-19, and U-22 levels. He made his first-class debut for Karnataka in 2010, and quickly established himself as a key player for the team.
In 2014, Rahul made his international debut for India in an ODI match against Australia. He made his Test debut the following year, against Australia. He is known for his elegant and graceful batting style, and has been particularly successful in limited-overs cricket. He has represented India in over 50 ODIs and over 50 T20Is, and is considered one of the best opening batsmen in the Indian team. He is also one of the few wicket-keepers in India who can open the innings.
In 2016, Rahul made a century on debut in T20Is, becoming the first Indian to do so. He also became the fastest Indian to score centuries across all formats of the game in 2017. He was also a part of Indian team that lift the Asia Cup 2018.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rahul has represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab. He has been one of the leading run-scorers in the league and has captained the team. He is the only player to score over 1000 runs in the IPL for 4 consecutive seasons.
Off the field, Rahul is known for being a private person and keeps a low profile.
