States should contribute to MNREGA wages - Giriraj Singh

Union Minister Giriraj Singh has recently called for states to contribute towards wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). The MGNREGS is a government scheme that guarantees 100 days of wage employment in a financial year to rural households in India.

Singh has emphasized that the MGNREGS is a central government scheme and that the states must contribute towards the wages. He also stated that the states must prioritize the scheme and ensure that the wages are paid on time.

The minister's call comes as several states have been facing a shortage of funds for MGNREGS wages. The central government has been releasing funds to states for the scheme, but due to various reasons such as poor implementation, lack of proper monitoring, and inadequate allocation of funds by the states, the scheme has not been able to achieve its full potential.

Singh has also highlighted that the MGNREGS has been playing an important role in providing employment and income to the rural population, especially during the pandemic. He has urged the states to work towards the effective implementation of the scheme and ensure that the rural population is able to benefit from it.
