What is Sources

The sources of funding for the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) include the government budget and appropriations from the Union and State Governments. The CAG is also empowered to collect fees and charges for services rendered and recover costs for any examination or audit conducted. The CAG may also receive grants, donations or gifts from any source, as well as income from investments made with its own funds.

The CAG's main source of funding is the annual budget allocation from the Union or State Governments, which covers the costs of its operations, such as salaries, office expenses, and other administrative costs. The CAG also receives funding for specific audits or investigations as required.

The CAG is an independent body and its funding is protected from executive control, as per the Constitution of India to maintain its autonomy and impartiality.
